Rogers Update - 11/6/21
November 6, 2012
Dear Friends,

I am writing this on Election Day having just returned from the polls and voting.  A presidential election is a good reminder that even though we make our plans, it is God who decides (Proverbs 16).  No matter the outcome, no matter what happens, God is still working “…all things after the counsel of His own will” (Ephesians 1:11).  That is absolutely true of ministry as well with its many ups and downs!

Since our last prayer letter we have had one adventure after another.  Sometimes Beabea and I were together, and sometimes we were apart.  Even apart each of us was experiencing different adventures serving God.  From May through October, I have been home a little over two weeks.  Most of the time I have been involved in ministry opportunities, but I did have a couple of opportunities to spend a few days with grandkids.  Beabea also had chances to do this as well, but we often found ourselves with grandchildren at different times while apart from each other.  Not as much fun, but still great! While Beabea worked at her care giving ministry/job, I traveled by car for ten weeks doing ministry in Iowa, Utah, Arizona, and California (over 7500 miles).  I was involved in a new church plant as well as speaking in churches and conferences, and doing ministry consultation.  There were also several good opportunities to share Christ along the way.

A very short time after arriving home in August, Beabea and I flew to Fairbanks, Alaska on a five week ministry trip. While there we spent time with missionaries, David and Heidi Craig, at Fort Yukon, a Native American village on the Yukon River.  Our time with them was exciting.  On our first Sunday in Alaska (this year that is), David Craig baptized two believers in a Yukon River canal.  Later that week, Heidi (David’s wife) led a lady to the Lord, and on our last morning before we left Fort Yukon, there was a real shootout in the village (the genuine thing, not a reenactment).  We could hear the shooting, but both individuals were too drunk to hit anyone, however, as Beabea put it, “I’m sure the bullets hit something!”

We spoke in four churches while in Alaska including a Bible conference on “Biblical Relationships” at McGrath Road Baptist in Fairbanks.  (Our thanks to McGrath Road Baptist Church for making the entire Alaska trip possible.  They were such an encouragement in so many ways.)  On our way down to Big Lake, Alaska, to spend time with missionaries, Doug and Linda Ferrett (friends we have known for many years) we traveled the Alaska Railroad.  It was a fantastic trip, allowing us to see the beauty of our country’s biggest state.  We also had an excellent opportunity to talk about our ministry and the Person of Jesus Christ.  During the Alaska trip we had the privilege of meeting with several additional missionaries and were involved in consultations with pastors and churches.  For those interested, I posted a few pictures of the Alaska trip on the BEM website:

Upon arriving home in Indiana, Beabea returned to her responsibilities as a caregiver, and I headed to Kansas.  While there, I had several wonderful speaking opportunities including a mission conference.  I was able to share in more detail our BEM ministry to a couple of our supporting churches as well as another church.  We have close friends in all of these churches, and it was a very special time of fellowship in each area.

Pray for us as we schedule the year 2013 that the Lord will guide us in the decisions we are making to honor Him.

John
