Rogers Update - 12/4/13
December 4, 2013

Dear Friends,

Paul wrote in Colossians 3:15 to “…let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”  I have always enjoyed this verse during the Christmas season.  The words speak of both the holidays of Christmas and Thanksgiving.  We think of peace on earth when we sing the Christmas hymns and songs.  The peace that comes from God is more than the future harmony of the nations.  God’s special peace calms the soul in difficult and challenging times …and there are so many difficult and challenging times that the people of God face.  What a great comfort for those of us who know Christ that the greatest conflict, the one each of us had with God, has been settled in the substitutionary death of His Son.  Because of the Lord Jesus, all believers have been brought into the harmony of belonging to the body of Christ.  What a challenge to work together and love each other.  Knowing God has accomplished all of this, we experience a special thankfulness for what God has done.  If He cares so much to solve the ultimate issue of how to spend eternity with Him, then we can take note of all that He is doing in our lives and know that He is worthy of our trust!

This thanksgiving we have had so many reasons to be thankful and a lot the reasons are tied to grandchildren!  On November 18th, our daughter-in-law, Jessica, gave birth to our fourth grandchild, Isaiah Thomas Rogers.  He weighed 7 lbs 3 oz and measured 20 & ½ inches long.  As you can see, he had a full head of hair!  Isaiah is our son’s (Jeremiah) first child, and he (Isaiah) fits right in to our family for he is as good looking as the rest of our grandchildren!  We also have had the privilege of our daughter, Christy, and her children, Laurie, Garrett, and Morgan spending Thanksgiving with us as well as staying for a couple of weeks.  We have had a blast with grandkids everywhere we turn!

I continue to speak each week at First Baptist Church in Russiaville, Indiana.  Our pastor continues on a sabbatical for health reasons.  We would all appreciate your prayers for him and his family.  I will be speaking at First Baptist through the end of December, then I head out to Utah for January, Alaska in February, and Kansas in March.  I will only be home for a few days scattered through those months.  Obviously, I desire your prayers for safety in travel as well as being sensitive to the ministry opportunities that are before me.  Also, please be in prayer for Beabea who will not be traveling with me during these trips.  She is staying home and working her caregiver job to help us with our financial needs.  The Lord continues to supply, but we are seeking to be good stewards of what God is giving to us.

May God give you a special time with your families during these precious months of year!

John
